ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Real competition. Real fun.
The Badminton Wellington Interschool Competition runs every school term at our Hataitai centre. Schools bring a team of 3–6 players to compete over 6 weeks, finishing with a tournament and award ceremony.

Teams are graded by experience so students compete at an appropriate level. All equipment is provided — easy for schools to get involved with minimal preparation.

Matches are self-umpired using Badminton Simplified Rules — available on YouTube.

SECTIONS
Two sections -- find your level
Teams are graded on entry.
Player order must be ranked by ability and remain consistent throughout the competition.
SECTION A
Beginners
Starts 4:00pm
For students new to badminton or with limited experience. A supportive introduction to competitive team play.
All equipment provided
Students need clean court shoes and appropriate sports clothing
SECTION B
Experienced
Starts 5:00pm
For students new to badminton or with limited experience. A supportive introduction to competitive team play.
Player ability order must stay consistent all term
Reserves fill in at the lowest spot
MATCH FORMAT
How the match format works
Each match follows a simple singles and doubles format — easy to follow for Year 7–8 players.

Singles Matches
Players compete one-on-one in order of ranking. Your number 1 plays their number 1, number 2 plays their number 2, and so on.

Doubles Matches
You and a partner play doubles together against another pair. Partners are randomised each round so you get to mix with different players throughout the afternoon.
Umpires
Self-Umpired
Matches are self-umpired using Badminton Simplified Rules. Students should know the basics before Week 1.

Every Thursday evening at Badminton Wellington, 1 Ruahine Street, Hataitai.
WEEK 1
Instructions & Grading
Teams are introduced to the format and ranked by ability. Rep players on hand to help with orientation.
Competitive Matches
WEEKS 2-7
Each team plays matches in their section. Results tracked throughout the term.
Optional Tournament
WEEK 8
Register your players in our optional Tournament — a fun competitive 2 hours with activities and spot prizes.
Rep players assist during Interschool
REP PLAYER INVOLVEMENT
Our representative players support Interschool throughout the term — helping with orientation on Day 1 and available during matches to support and encourage new players.
Who can enter
Students in Years 7-8
Teams of 3 minimum (ideally 4 for reserve)
No prior experience needed for Beginners section
Only enter committed teams - defaults cause disruption

INTERSCHOOL TOURNAMENT
End the term with a bang
Week 8 of each term finishes with the optional Interschool Tournament — open to all participating players. A fun, competitive format for all levels.
