ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Real competition. Real fun.
The Badminton Wellington Interschool Competition runs every school term at our Hataitai centre. Schools bring a team of 3–4 players to compete over 6 weeks of matches.
Teams are graded by experience so students compete at an appropriate level. All equipment is provided — easy for schools to get involved with minimal preparation.
Matches are self-umpired using the following rules

SECTIONS
Two sections -- find your level
Teams are graded on entry.
Player order must be ranked by ability and remain consistent throughout the competition.
SECTION A
Experienced
Starts 4:00pm
For students who have played previously, or are confident to compete against other students who are experienced.
Player ability order must stay consistent all term
Reserves fill in at the lowest spot
SECTION B
Beginners
Starts 5:00pm
For students new to badminton or with limited experience. A supportive introduction to competitive team play.
All equipment provided
Students need clean court shoes and appropriate sports clothing
MATCH FORMAT
How the match format works
Each match follows a simple singles and doubles format — easy to follow for Year 7–8 players.

Singles Matches
Teams compete one-on-one in order of ranking. Your number 1 plays their number 1, number 2 plays their number 2, and so on.

Doubles Matches
Partners are randomised each round so you get to mix with different players from other teams throughout the afternoon.
Umpires
Self-Umpired
Matches are self-umpired using Badminton Simplified Rules. Students should know the basics before Week 1.

WEEK 1
Instructions & Grading
Teams are introduced to the format and ranked by ability.
Competitive Matches
WEEKS 2-7
Each team plays matches in their section. Results tracked throughout the term.
Optional End of Term Tournament
WEEK 8
Register your players in our optional Tournament — a fun competitive 2 hours with activities and spot prizes.
Who can enter
Students in Years 7-8
Teams of 3 minimum (ideally 4 for reserve)
No prior experience needed for Beginners section
Please only enter committed teams
