🌍 Country of Origin Team Competition
Badminton Wellington is proud to introduce the Country of Origin Team Competition—a unique event celebrating the cultural diversity of our badminton community through team-based competitions.
Players will represent a country based on their heritage, bringing together sport, identity, and community in an exciting and inclusive format.

Team Size: 4–6 players
🌏 Eligibility
Players may represent a Country of Origin if they have a biological connection through:

Birth in the country
-
A parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent connection (minimum 1/8 heritage)
Players with multiple eligibilities must select one country at registration.
Players who do not claim an overseas country may represent New Zealand / Aotearoa.
All eligibility is self-declared in good faith.
🏆 Competition Format
Competitive Grade

6 teams per division

Full round robin

Each team plays 5 ties

Winner determined by most ties won
Challenging Grade

8 teams per division

Two pools of 4 teams

Round robin within pools

Cross-over semifinals and finals
All teams are guaranteed 5 ties.
🎯 Match Format
Each tie consists of 5 matches:

3 Doubles

2 Singles
Scoring:

Games to 15 points (best of 3)

No extension at 14-all
Player Rules:

Maximum 2 matches per player per tie

Maximum 1 singles match per player per tie
Teams may vary their playing order for each tie.
📅 Schedule

Friday 15 May: 1 tie (7:00pm)

Saturday 16 May: 3 ties (8:30am)

Sunday 17 May: 1 tie (8:30am)
Each tie is expected to last up to 2.5 hours.

Each team receives 2 tubes of Gosen 5500 shuttles.
